Every year, hundreds of people throng at Dechenphug temple to witness the tshechu. The day falls on the 10th day of the ninth month of the Bhutanese calendar. This tshechu is dedicated to Gayngyen Jakpa Melen, a powerful local deity in Bhutan. A portion of the holy moves incorporates Zhana-Nga Cham, Genyen Kunchaam, Shazam Cham ad Ngachaam. Different social projects were performed by the artists of the Royal Academy of Performing Arts. The tshechu was first presented in 2003 under the command of His Majesty The Fourth King. The mask dances performed there will definitely fascinate you and the sound of horns and cymbals will intrigue you but most importantly, the sea of happy faces will make to feel at peace.

DAY 1: PARO/THIMPHU

Arrive any time at Paro International Airport (2200 meters above sea level) and transfer to Thimphu.
In Thimphu (2300m), if time permits, take an orientation walk in town, do shopping, and get settled in.

DAY 2: THIMPHU (DECHENPHUG TSHECHU)

Drive to Dechenphug monastery to witness the Tsechu.

DAY 3: THIMPHU/PARO

Travel to Paro. En route, visit TaChog Lhakhang built by the famous 15th-century Buddhist Master known as the Iron Bridge Builder. Then visit the majestic Paro Rinpung Dzong, National Museum, and Kyichu Lhakhang-one of the oldest temples built in the 7th century. In the evening, have a stroll along the peaceful town of Paro.

DAY 4: HIKE to TIGER’S NEST MONASTERY

Hike to Paro Taktsang which is also known as the Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This is one of the holiest sites in the country. In the evening, visit a homestay, have a hot-stone bath, and witness a cultural show performed by a group of local people.
