Paro Dzongkhag is situated in the northwestern part of the country. It is located at an altitude of 2,250m above sea level. It covers a total area of 1293 sq. km and has a population of 35260.

The only International Airport within the jurisdiction makes the Dzongkhag an aerial gateway to the Kingdom and it benefits the farmers and business owners of Paro Dzongkhag at large.

It is one of the most historic valleys in Bhutan. Both trade goods and invading Tibetans came over the pass at the top of the valley, giving Paro the closest cultural connection with Tibet of any Bhutanese district. The dominant language in Paro is Dzongkhag, the national language.
