The lotus king Padma Gyalpo stands for the Guru’s life than he spent in india as a wise and just ruler who gave his people spiritual and material gifts. However, when he realized that he would not be able to achieve enlightenment if he remained king, he grew disquieted and decided to take action. He willfully killed a young boy so that, according to Indian law, he would be exiled. The king was consequently expelled from the land and was free to pursue his enlightenment. As a king he sits in regal pose clad in a precious many- coloured robe. The rhythm of the double tambourine in his right hand expresses the bliss of supreme wisdom and the inaudible accompanying sound of the emptiness of all appearances. In his lift hand he holds a mirror, again a symbol of emptiness or pure consciousness
