Alcohol-related ailments are among the 10 leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Bhutan. The number of people who consume alcohol in Bhutan is pretty high in the WHO South-East Asia Region. Alcohol use has the potential to affect health and well being of the individuals, their families and society at large.
Heart disease and stroke are the commonest ways by which tobacco kills people. As per WHO, in Bhutan, tobacco kills estimated 221 people each year which is around 5.7% of all deaths. Therefore let us try to quit tobacco use or help current tobacco users to quit tobacco for a healthier heart, and prevent people from starting tobacco use.
Doma is no different from the above two, except there is not much studies or data that prove its adverse affects. However, every house hold knows how much doma has affected their family members or their friends and relatives.
Therefore, let us try to be the change we want to see, by quitting or helping others quit these substances.
We sincerely hope that these new behaviors are incorporated into our daily lives and carried forward even beyond COVID-19.
